Large Print magazines
Our subscription to The Oldie is with a local newsagent; my husband and I have been regular subscribers since the launch in 1992 when it was bought for him as a joke!
Unfortunately, with failing eyesight, it seems he can no longer read the print size and magnifying glasses are rather cumbersome to use. I have scanned and edited the last issue thus enabling printing of individual articles in large size print however I do not see myself doing this for every issue.....
Is there a facility that you are aware of, within the online subscription, to easily enlarge print? I could then simply print out.
I am sorry to hear about your husband's problems; it must be very frustrating for him.
If you were to subscribe to receive the magazine by post (which would save some money, incidentally) you will get access to the online Subscibers' area, which gives online access to current and back issues.
It ought then to be possible to view them on screen at any level of magnification your computer will give you.
In more general terms, has you husband tried a Kindle or one of the other "tablet" reading devices?
Many Oldie readers have discovered that it has transformed their reading habits for the better as all books and magazines that appear on it are easily rendered in typeface of any size. At the moment the Oldie does not have a Kindle edition, but many good magazines do and of course many thousands of books are available, even at no charge if out of copyright.
I wrote about this a year ago, and you can read what I said here; lots of readers also contributed their own experiences, many of which I collated here.
Despite your husband being a determined anti-computer type, why not ask him to give you one for your birthday and then let him try it? He might become hooked.
