Knopfler & Green vs Hank Marvin
September 9, 2013
Webster in Webster's latest thought

Every man of my generation who owned a guitar (we pretty much all did) at some stage sat in his bedroom trying to play like Hank Marvin.

Mark Knopfler was no exception, so here's my dilemma: it disloyal of me to prefer Knopfler's version of a Shadows tune?  He has re-recorded Atlantis; I feel like something of a traitor, but I think Knopfler's is a little tiny bit better:

Shamefacedly I also think the same of Peter Green's version of Midnight.

I feel such a sense of disloyalty.

Both these track come from Twang!, a whole album of Shadows tributes by some of the best guitarists around who were influenced by the great Marvin.

I never expected to hear Richie Blackmore playing Apache, but it's there, as is Tony Iommi playing Wonderful Land and Neil Young on Spring is Nearly Here

Guitar geek heaven.
